Hi everybody, I don't have travel plans yet. We don't know anything about our visas. We just know that we are supposed to leave in a week. We might get reassigned somewhere else, but nobody really know. Both of our teachers left, because their school is over, and they are going to go take a vacation. But they said that if we don't get our visas, we might end up seeing them when they get back. They might have been joking, but I don't really know. I guess someday they would just come get us in our room, and we would all run down to the travel office and get on a bus, and then we would go to a consulate somewhere. I don't know anything about suitcases I might need. A carry on sized thing might be helpful,l but I don't think I would need it. If you sent one to me I wouldn't be angry, and I would probably use it. Let me know if you are going to send me one though. I know that you want me to talk about spiritual experiences and all of that kind of stuff, but I can't really think of things to say. Everything that happens here is super spiritual. On Monday, we are always especially spiritually exhausted. We always go to the Sunday night devotionals and then these little movies afterwards. Last night the BYU Men's Choir came and sang. It wasn't super special, because they were all wearing jackets with the goofy crests on the pockets that make me think of rich people in New England, but they sang some pretty cool songs. After that we went and watched The Testaments in Spanish. It is that movie where there is a guy, Jacob, whose dad is named Helam. Helam is a prophet and Jacob makes stone things, and he starts working for Corihor, and then Christ comes. (I know that that was the worst summary ever, all of those words just vomited out of me.) We watched it in English our first week, and this time we didn't understand a whole lot of it, but it was still good. Everybody always comes back and makes all this goals and talks about how much better the next week will be, but they are usually the same. Some people in my district get way too excited about some stuff, like one elder is a football player, and I think that he thinks life is a movie, like Remember the Titans (which he has as the second greatest movie of all time, after Sandlot), and every time something cool happens he has to make a comment about it and talk about it and all of our goals are three letter acronyms like Win the Day, WTD, or corny things like, "leave it all IN the field." Get it? Because we aren't on a field we are in the field? I don't actually dislike him; that is just something I wanted to tell you about. Also something I want to share, and it is only half me complaining. There was a quote from Aldous Huxley that said something to the effect of, "in religion all words are dirty words." It sounds weird, but I think it makes sense, especially for us. A lot of our religion is focused on the Book of Mormon, which we like because of its plain and simple messages. They aren't wordy or as eloquent as something in the Bible, they just tell a message. Another thing is the importance of the Spirit. It doesn't matter what you say to a person, unless they feel the Spirit, they won't be converted and want to change themselves. But there are some people who just love to talk and they want to explain everything. I just think that there are times when you shouldn't say everything you are thinking- Let everyone else around you think their own things and ponder on that. One elder in our district will always talk. Yesterday in priesthood meeting we read like 12 verses of scripture just going around the room, and someone counted him making more comments then verses read. He made a comment between every verse and then multiple in a couple of them. Also, he talks like a motivational speaker- he thinks he's a football coach or something, and he always wants to rally the troops. He says stuff like, "That's why we're here, boys," or "I want you to think about that, boys." We all think that it is super annoying. The first few days we thought he was really cool and helpful. Now most of us think of him as Hitler, because he is such a good public speaker, and we just think he could get people to do what he wants. Sorry for whining so much- I don't really dislike anybody, and my companion is a good guy. I like all of the people here.
Now for pictures, that first one is my companion raising Mexico's flag early Wednesday morning! The next one is a class picture with one of our teachers. His name is Dallas Bruce, and he went to Argentina on his mission. The next one is of just me and him.
The next one is our class and our other teacher, Hermano or Taylor King. He went to Chile on his mission. The next one is just the two of us. The next one is our whole district sitting on a bench at our temple walk yesterday. I will talk to you guys later today. Goodbye, and I love you all!
(After his morning email, I wrote him back and and shared with him something that I had read on the blog of another mission president's wife. These are quotes that she shared from a conference that she and her husband attended for all of the mission presidents in Mexico. "If you can go back to your missions and teach your missionaries that it is the Spirit that teaches, then this conference will have been a success." Elder Daniel Johnson, and" In regard to teaching . . .'Plan B is what you have prepared. Plan A is what the Spirit teaches'." )
(PM email) I think that it would be awesome to have another little suitcase, a carry-on size one, you know. Thank you for that whole Plan A thing. I don't know if I would share it. I might if it comes up, but I want to thank you, because it is probably something that I will remember to think about, and it will change my mission and make me be better. I want to be the best missionary ever, so I've got to work hard. I want to teach at the MTC, and only the best missionaries ever get to teach here
I just got a haircut. It was okay, and now I have really short nice missionary hair. I forgot my camera, so I can't send you a picture, but I will probably do it sometime. And my hair is a lot shorter. Nobody even recognized me when I came back. I love you guys, and I hope that you are all having a good time. I will probably end up getting to contact you some time soon, when we find out about visas and stuff like that so you better keep your phone on you. I hope that everything is awesome for you are having as good a time as I am. Time here is flying, and people keep telling us it will just go faster once we get out to the field. I will see you in no time. BYE!!!!!!!!!
