Okay, so first off Ii have a new companion named Elder Gomez. He is from the Dominican Republic. He is pretty cool, but we don't get along as well as Elder Cluff and I did- not yet. He is really loud and sings and likes to be in the middle of things. I'm getting used to it. Luckily we have some other pretty cool elders here, too. Elder Anderson and Elder Montoya. Elder Anderson is also my uncle, the father of my brother, Elder Sheibler. (For those of you unfamiliar with the mission lingo- they call the Elder that trains a new missionary their father. The missionaries that are in the MTC together and start their mission together are called their brothers.) And Elder Montoya is brand new. This week was super awesome, because we had branch conference, which means that we had 20 people from the Stake come out, and we were able to have a total of 59 people there. But if you're keeping track, that means, we still would have had 29 people there without the Stake coming, and that is the new record of my time here. So I am happy. It showed a lot of the fruits that we worked towards last change and the hard work we did this week. And then last night we went to a stake fireside thing that was meant for youth and the temple president was there and dropped some pretty deep doctrine on all of us, like the differences between commandments, laws, and the will of God. It was fun- stuff about commandments. Like did you know that the Word of Wisdom isn't a commandment? In the 1851 conference, the commandment to not do drugs, alcohol, tobacco, tea, and coffee was added to the temple recommend interview, so those things are commandments, but the rest of it still isn't obligatory. So that was a fun thing. That is basically everything. We split the area, and the other elders are now in charge of just about everybody that we were working with. So that has been a little stressful trying to show them around to everyone. Oh! and also we had like 30 people in English class, which I taught by myself, even though my companion speaks near perfect English. And everyone actually enjoyed it, which was a pleasant surprise.Well, there is a picture of my companion. He's all super happy and smiley, see!
And it sounds awesome that you have all those plans to read more church books. I also decided I wanted to read a few more things, like The Articles of Faith, The Great Apostasy (by Talmage) and The Miracle of Forgiveness. But someday I'll read those. And that is crazy to me that Lily would like Wicked so much, because she seems to little for that, but I guess she is a lot bigger now.
And about last names in Mexico. Everybody has two. Like my full name would be Mason Lane Parkes Brown, (Fun fact- I have started saying my name is Lane, every once in a while, because otherwise the people here think I'm a mason). Then when it says "de blank," that is their husband's first last name. As far as I understand it. But I don't really know, I haven't gotten to that level of culture yet. I hope that helps. I hope you guys all have awesome times this week, and that you do good and awesome things!! I love you all BYE!!!
